Through this collection of 2000 paintings, I propose to discover the disturbing strangeness of artificial intelligence put at the service of Fine Arts. It is the history of painting through the omnipotence of algorithms that is questioned here. The process is simple, you just have to type the descriptive text of the image you want to see created, then the computer program creates in a few seconds several proposals related to your request. Thus, on some classical themes, I asked this algorithm to create paintings representing the painter and his model, landscapes, Ophelia, Venus tattooed with flowers painted in the style of Giotto for example. The result is fascinating, grotesque, confusing and sometimes frightening. The disgrace rubs shoulders with the audacity, the ugliness reaches the sublime, as in a poem of Flowers of Evil by Charles Baudelaire. Like a soulless ogre, the machine swallows all the data offered to it, only to spit it out in the face of its author. Recomposed, reinterpreted, recreated, the machine sends us back surprising images, but also that of a deformed, abused, grimacing and grotesque humanity. This "singularity" participates in a project: that of merging the organic with the digital world, seeking by all means to substitute the natural that we will degrade by the artificial that we will sublimate. These technological advances, as fascinating as they are, do not always preserve us from hubris. The vanity, the pride to want to create an increased art, an increased man and in the worst case to replace the man by the machine; this desire of demiurge does not even hide these hegemonic, totalitarian and eugenic ambitions. This black owl from the transhumanist philosophy is now hovering over our heads and when we give up to the AI, the free interpretation of its algorithms, it degenerates very quickly and the machine produces very quickly abominable images. I have not retained in this collection the most frightening images that I could discover in the meanders of thealgorithms of this reappropriation of the history of painting, but I let you discover by yourself the frightening beauty of this gallery and see for yourself the extent of the problem. À travers cette collection de 2000 peintures, je vous propose de découvrir l’inquiétante étrangeté de l’intelligence artificielle mise au service des Beaux-Arts. C’est l’histoire de la peinture passée au travers de la toute-puissance des algorithmes qui est interrogée ici. Le procédé est simple, il suffit de taper le texte descriptif de l'image que l'on souhaite voir créer, puis le programme informatique crée en quelques secondes plusieurs propositions se rapportant à votre requête. Ainsi, sur quelques thèmes classiques, j'ai demandé à cet algorithme de me créer des peintures représentant le peintre et son modèle, des paysages, Ophélie, Vénus tatouée avec des fleurs peintes dans le style de Giotto par exemple. Le résultat est fascinant, grotesque, déroutant et parfois effrayant. La disgrâce côtoie l’audace, la laideur atteint le sublime, comme dans un poème des fleurs du mal de Charles Baudelaire. Comme un ogre sans âme, la machine avale toutes les données qui lui sont offertes pour ensuite les recracher à la face de son auteur. Recomposé, réinterprété, recréer, la machine nous renvoie des images surprenantes, mais aussi celle d’une humanité déformée, maltraité, grimaçante et grotesque. Cette « singularité » participe d’un projet : celui de fusionner l’organique au monde digital, en cherchant par tous les moyens à substituer le naturel que l’on va dégrader par l'artificiel que l’on va sublimer. Ces avancées technologiques, aussi fascinantes soit-elle, ne préservent pas toujours de l’hubris. La vanité, l’orgueil de vouloir créer un art augmenté, un homme augmenté et dans le pire des cas à remplacer l’homme par la machine ; ce désir de démiurge ne cache même plus ces ambitions hégémoniques, totalitaire et eugéniste. Ce hibou noir issu de la philosophie transhumaniste plane désormais au-dessus de nos têtes et lorsque nous abandonnons à l'IA, la libre interprétation de ses algorithmes, ça dégénère très vite et la machine produit très rapidement des images abominables. Je n'ai pas retenu dans cette collection les images les plus effrayantes que j'ai pu découvrir dans les méandres des algorithmes de cette réappropriation de l'histoire de la peinture, mais je vous laisse découvrir par vous-même l'effroyable beauté de cette pinacothèque et constater par vous-même l’étendu du problème. À vous de faire ensuite votre propre réflexion.
